Voice Aerobics® Part 1 Breathwork
15m
Voice Aerobics® was designed for individual with voice changes from Parkinson's or aging, and combines voice practice with movement.
Mary Spremulli, CCC-SLP, a speech-language pathologist developed Voice Aerobics® in 1999 as an after therapy program for her patients with Parkinson’s disease who wanted voice exercises they could practice on their own at home.
Part 1, Breath Work is a warm-up for the body and voice. The focus is on posture and breathing as the foundation for your voice. Emphasis is on the use of the diaphragm and abdominal muscles (core) for posture and balance, and for breath support for voice and swallowing.
The movements are gentle and relaxing, and you are invited to pay attention to your body, breathing, and voice, and do everything to the extent that your body will allow. When used several times a week, it may help to reduce cervical and upper body tension sometimes associated with voice problems.
The program is well suited for persons with Parkinson’s and related neurological disorders as well as healthy older adults wanting to improve the use of their voice.
